About AEI

Asia & The Environment Initiative is a program that is sponsored by the Henry Luce Foundation at Eckerd College. Students from a variety of backgrounds came together to participate in a spring into summer intensive study program that focuses on the East Asian region of the world and its relation to the environment. In this program , the students were divided into 3 groups: Indonesia, Hong Kong and Japan. During the spring semester of 2016 at Eckerd, Dr. Andrew Chittick led a weekly course that brought these groups together. These groups interacted with one another through class discussions and individual/group projects. During this time, the groups also worked on trip preparation, through field research and language studies.

This program would not be possible without the support of the Henry Luce Foundation and the hard work and strong committment of Eckerd College's East Asian Studies Professor Andrew Chittick and Marine Science & Botany Professor Jeannine Lessmann. Asia and The Environmental Initiative is more than just a study abroad experience - It is the opportunity for students to strengthen their understanding of the environmental initiative at an international scale through a holistic approach.
